Rissi Palmer Songwriting & Vocal Performance Camp, July 10-14!!!
July 10-14, I will be teaching a Songwriting/Vocal Performance camp for kids ages 8-16 at Walltown Children’s Theatre in Durham. We’ll be composing, learning a little theory, as well as exploring movement and using our voices. It will be a great time!!! This was our first The Relative Pitch Youth Open Mic of 2017 and our first back in Durham, in our new home, The Blue Note Grill. We had some veteran performers as well as a newcomer that wowed the crowd. You can check out their performances below:

New Year, New Location, New Time for the Relative Pitch!!!
Happy New Year everyone!!! I know, I’m a month late…sorry! As many of you know, my family and I recently made the move to Durham and have been busy settling in. In addition, I am preparing to release a new album and do some touring. Needless to say, 2017 is already off to a busy start.
After much consideration, I made the decision to move The Relative Pitch back to Durham this year. I want to take this opportunity to say that the two years we spent at Sola Coffee Cafe in Raleigh were amazing and John Luther and his staff were nothing short of wonderful to me and I hope that you all will continue to patronize this great establishment. On Saturday, March 25 at 4pm-5pm, we will resume The Relative Pitch Youth Open mic at one of the best BBQ and music venues in Durham, The Blue Note Grill!!! Our performers will now be on a full fledge stage, complete with lighting and sound (AND a sound man that is not me or my husband…yay!!!).

The Relative Pitch Youth Open Mic November 12, 2016 show (Recap)
This was the last show for 2016 and the performers did not disappoint!!! It was another night of girl power and lots of instrumentalists and songwriters. This ends my 4th year of hosting and it’s wonderful to watch so many performers return and witness their growth. Anyway, here are some highlights from the show:

Walltown Children’s Theatre offering Songwriting class this fall…taught by Rissi Palmer.
I adore Walltown Children’s Theatre and all the amazing things they do in the Durham community and I am proud to now be a part of their staff! In addition to returning as one of the choir directors for Raising Voices Children’s Choir (which starts on Monday, September 12 and it’s FREE to join!!!) , starting next Wednesday, September 7 at 5:30pm, I will be teaching songwriting. We will explore various genres’ writing styles, basic song structure, publishing and admin, and the students will have an opportunity to place their songs in a very special project I’m working on. If you know of a young person who has a free Wednesday night and wants to learn to write songs, click HERE for more information. Scholarships are available.

It was another great show filled with surprising talents on May 21 at Sola. Here are some of the highlights:
Ethan, who never disappoints, wowed the crowd with his rendition of “Lost Boys”:
Abby, a budding young songwriter and singer, performed a wonderful cover of “Hallelujah”:
Trinity, an enthusiastic young singer/songwriter, gave us her take on “Little Talks”
Sareena and Illiana won over the crowd with their adorably sweet performance of “The Candy Man”:
